Description: Do you have a .22 rifle you haven’t used in a while? Why not dust it off and give the adult smallbore league a try? (We’ll let you shoot the match with an air rifle as well if you want to give it a try.)
The adult smallbore league has two classes of guns, match rifles which shoot the USA-50 target (a very tough target), and sporter rifles which shoot the A-32 light rifle target. We use two different targets so that someone with a rifle like a Marlin model 60, Ruger 10/22 or a lever action isn’t competing against a match rifle shooter. You can shoot with either iron sights or a scope on your rifle. If you have sling swivels, a sling will help but if you don’t have one you can shoot without one too.
So what’s the course of fire? We start out in the prone position. We fire 10 shots for score, but you have unlimited sighters. Next we shoot the standing position, which is the most challenging. You again will shoot 10 shots for score, with unlimited sighters. We finish up in the kneeling position, but we allow shooters to substitute sitting if they prefer. Like the first two stages, this is also 10 shots for score.
We have a total of 30 shots for score, all slow fire. 1 box of .22 ammo will get you through the match. If you have a spotting scope or a pair of binoculars, bring them, it will help you to see where you’re shooting. If you’re not too sure about the positions, don’t worry, we’ll show you what to do. We’re beginner friendly. We shoot on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the indoor range starting at 8:00 p.m.!
