BLACK POWDER SHOOTING

Equipment needed:  Black powder rifles and pistols.

The course of fire is:
    Pistols/revolvers:
          5 shots at 15 yards
          5 shots at 25 yards

For rifles:
1 fouling shot followed by 1 sighter and 5 rounds for score at 50 yards (offhand)
1 sighter followed by 10 rounds for score at 75 yards or 100 yards. Position will vary at each shoot. 

The following is a list of general Black Powder rules to be followed while shooting at the outdoor range:

1.  Use only Black Powder or equivalent, no smokeless powder.
2.  Guns will be carried cased to and from the firing line.
3.  There will be no smoking within 20 feet of the firing line or loading area.
4.  No firearm is to be left charged during shooting.
5.  There will be no rapid firing.
6.  There will be no loading directly from flask, or horn allowed. The use of 'Lightning Loaders' or equivalent is recommended.
7.  Gun barrels are to be pointed upward when loading or not on the firing line.
8.  No duplex loads are allowed.
9.  There will be no firearms capped (for percussion rifles or pistols) or primed (flint) anywhere but on the firing line.

During Meets The Following Additional Rules Will Apply:

10.  Two (2) range officers will run each relay.
11.  Range officers will check each firearm before and after each relay using the rod test to ensure the gun is unloaded.
12.  Prior to shooting each shooter will fire 1 cap toward the berm and 1 cap at the ground in presence of a range officer.
13.  While shooting, each shooter will step back from the line while reloading to prevent ignition of powder from muzzle blasts. Guns are to be capped or primed only on the firing line.
14.  In the event of a cease-fire, the range officers will determine if the firearms must be de-capped or de-primed.
15.  A designated loading area will be assigned prior to the start of handgun shoots. Handguns will fire in groups of 5 shots with no loading taking place until the line has been made safe. The use of holsters is recommended for transport of the handguns between the loading area and the line.
16.  No slings are allowed.
17.  No telescopic sights.
18.  Muzzle-loading firearms only.
19.  Fees will be $2.00 for club members and $6.00 for non-members.
20.  Scoring will be to the center of the bullet to compensate for different numbers of caliber's being used.
21.  All shooters must attend over 50% of the shoots to qualify for the final awards shoot at the end of the season.

Y. Patrick Tan led the handgun shoot with a 92x100 and Howard Rifkin led the rifles with a 137x150 4x.

Next months shoot will be a standard match which will be held on the Third Sunday of October. This is due to rescheduling because of the yearly steel match being held the first week of October. The NRA Pistol Qualification match for October will be canceled due to this change and will begin again on the thirs Sunday of November.

NRA Qualifications

 We held our First NRA Qualification match on Sunday Sept 16th. Congratulations are in order for Wilson Santana, who completed his Pro-Marksman stage (with a borrowed firearm) and for John Antonucci, Claudina Brizuela, Anna Brunner, Lance Brunner, Leon Gennett, John LeGoff, Dave Rosenthal, Wayne Skidmore and Patrick Tan who qualified for both their Pro-Marksman and Marksman awards. Our next Qualification match will be held on the third week of November at which time we will attempt to qualify for our Marksman 1st Class Award.
