How is it done at Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club?
The basic procedure is USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation). Many of the elements are drawing handgun from holster, multiple target engagement, shooter movement, reloading of handgun, assuming multiple body positions, shooting around obstacles. We generally present four handgun courses of fire (stages), plus an action shotgun match.
Shooters are divided into squads led by a squad leader or range officer. Each squad will rotate through the course of four stages until all shooters have completed the match. All shooters are asked to help the squads complete the course of fire by helping with policing brass, taping targets and setting steel.
We use an order to let the shooters know their place on the roster as they move up the list to shoot. The order is: Shooter on the line, shooter on deck.
